Inside the Fabulous World of Francesco Scognamiglio
The city of lights is the perfect backdrop for Francesco Scognamiglio Maison’s Fall/Winter 2017 Haute Couture Week Collection. Showing his delicate work in an intimate collection of small rooms adorned in gold, Scognamiglio gave his audience a close-up view as his ethereal gowns.
Inspired by the “poetic drama of Paris and Naples, the designer’s birthplace, ” hints of Neapolitan gardens could be found in brocade capes, while over 300,000 Swarovski crystals hinted at the Parisian lights.
Scognamiglio’s collection utilized ruffles and texture to transport us to a glamorous world filled with feathers, voluminous shapes and strategically placed lace. Embellished crystalized hoods completed the look. Finding the perfect balance between structure and volume, Scognamiglio’s feminine shapes and over-the-top glamour is exactly what one wants from a Haute Couture collection.
“Sculpted silhouettes hug the body and accentuate curves, transforming the woman into a pure yet tangible idealization of an angel, carnal and unreachable, palpitating in ruching and ruffles, eternally radiant in glittering Swarovski crystal embellishments peeking through skillfully used sheer elements.”
It’s hard to choose favorites with so many stunning pieces, but the top standouts included a white lace and feathered dress which gathered in the middle to really enhance the female shape, a sea foam green silk number with ruffles upon ruffles and an intricately beaded skirt paired with an ornate black sweater which emphasized the model’s shoulders.
The final look, Francesco Scognamiglio showcased a sheer bridal gown covered in lace and “delicately opulent embellishment[s],” featured fabric rosettes and hundreds of small gold crystals. The stunning dress complete with the gold lace-trimmed veil elicited audible “oohs” and “ahhs” from the crowd who eagerly began snapping photos on their phones.
