Can any food prove to be beyond the gestures of familiarity? What comes to mind when you think about the Churro? For some the image of Disneyland pops up, but others are taken back to their travel diary. When traveling across the world your senses immediately open up to taste acquisition and develop a palette that guides discovery.

Although many of us are familiar with the churro, the Spanish Churro with chocolate dipping sauce is experienced very differently from the American variety. For one, when they arrive on your plate, they are served with a cup that looks like sipping hot chocolate. If one does go for it, and takes a sip you’re immediately confused by the thickness of this liquid, and that is because it’s used for dipping not drinking.

Traditional Spanish churros are served with chocolate on the side for dipping and are a very popular dish in Madrid and all across Spain. The pictures of the Churros con chocolate, which is Spanish for churros with chocolate were taken in a café in Bilbao, Spain. Spaniards enjoy delighting in this delectable dessert. So next time you’re preparing your list of must try foods in Spain, make sure you include this sweet treat.
